Abstract

Malaria remains one of the most devastating infectious diseases globally, causing millions of deaths annually. Despite advances in prevention and treatment, drug resistance continues to be a major challenge in malaria control. This article reviews the development of novel antimalarial drugs, focusing on new classes of drugs, their mechanisms of action, and their potential for overcoming drug resistance. We explore the latest research on artemisinin-based combination therapies, as well as innovative approaches such as the use of natural products, gene editing, and immune modulation. Additionally, the article highlights the challenges faced in the development of new drugs and the need for continued investment in research and development.
