Abstract

Inhalation drug delivery systems (IDDS) are a critical mode of therapy, particularly in the treatment of respiratory diseases such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and cystic fibrosis. These systems offer significant advantages in terms of direct drug deposition in the lungs, rapid onset of action, and lower systemic side effects. Despite the advantages, several challenges in the design, development, and implementation of inhalation therapies exist. These challenges include issues related to device design, formulation stability, particle size distribution, and patient compliance. This article discusses the current challenges and opportunities in the field of inhalation drug delivery, with an emphasis on the advances in technology, formulations, and strategies to improve therapeutic outcomes.
