Abstract

Smart drug delivery systems (SDDS) represent a cutting-edge advancement in pharmaceutical technology, offering highly controlled and targeted delivery of therapeutic agents. These systems use various stimuli, including pH, temperature, magnetic fields, and light, to deliver drugs precisely to the targeted site, thereby improving the efficacy of treatment and reducing side effects. With the advent of nanotechnology, SDDS have shown great promise in enhancing drug absorption, improving bioavailability, and overcoming challenges such as the blood-brain barrier. This article explores the various types of SDDS, their mechanisms, and the future potential for their applications in personalized medicine, gene therapy, and cancer treatment. Additionally, the article discusses the challenges and ethical considerations associated with the integration of these systems into clinical practice.
