Abstract

Pharmacovigilance plays a pivotal role in ensuring drug safety, especially as pharmaceutical products are widely used across diverse patient populations. The discipline encompasses the detection, assessment, understanding, and prevention of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) or any other drug-related problems. This article provides a comprehensive review of the role of pharmacovigilance in maintaining drug safety. We explore various methodologies employed in pharmacovigilance, including spontaneous reporting systems, risk assessment tools, and regulatory frameworks. Furthermore, the article examines the evolving challenges in the field, including global harmonization of pharmacovigilance efforts and the impact of digital health technologies on drug safety monitoring. Through this review, we aim to underline the importance of pharmacovigilance as an essential component of public health safety and therapeutic decision-making.
