Abstract
Pharmacokinetics (PK) is a crucial branch of pharmacology that investigates the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME) of drugs. One of the most pivotal aspects influencing drug efficacy and toxicity is the interaction between drugs and their respective receptors. Receptors, predominantly proteins located on the cell surface or within the cell, facilitate cellular communication and mediate the effects of drugs. This article explores the significant role of drug receptors in pharmacokinetics, focusing on how receptor-ligand interactions influence drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion. A detailed understanding of these mechanisms can lead to better drug design, improving therapeutic outcomes and minimizing adverse effects.
